About Yuryosai

Yuryosai is a part of Hokudaisai. It is mainly created by freshmen classes, clubs, and other extracurricular groups. Yuryosai has the largest and most popular of the many festivals, which composes Hokudaisai. On the huge campus of Hokkaido University, Yuryosai covers the northern half of the Main Street and classrooms in ‘Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education(高等教育推進機構)’. Participating groups open various street stalls for food, drinks and snacks, and also put on many kinds of attractive events.

Originally, Yuryosai takes over the essence of Kyoyosai (General Education Festival)’, the festival used to be held in Hokkaido University until mid-1990.After Kyoyo-bu (Department of General Education) was abolished, the festival was reborn as Yuryosai. Now in the midst of our continuous history and tradition, we meet the brand-new festival encountered fresh, lively, and energetic spirits.
